"It is not known if Valtrex prevents the spread of the herpes virus family. Valtrex has shown promise as a treatment for infectious mononucleosis and is preventatively administered in suspected cases of herpes virus exposure. Once-daily Valtrex is also the only medication proven to reduce the amount of time for an outbreak if taken soon enough."
